Everything you need to know about changing your address when you move.
In Switzerland, every person is required to register their new residence with the relevant residents' register within 14 days of moving in. This obligation applies to Swiss citizens as well as foreigners residing in Switzerland. In addition, it is advisable to promptly notify your health insurer, Swiss Post, road traffic office and private service providers.
A complete move notification typically includes: residents' register of the new municipality (mandatory), Swiss Post (mail forwarding), health insurer, road traffic office (driving licence & vehicle registration), insurances (liability, household, life), banks and telecom providers. Adresio handles all of this in a single step.
By law, you have 14 days in most cantons to register with the residents' register. Deadlines may vary slightly by canton — some municipalities accept up to 30 days. For private service providers there is no legal deadline, but prompt notification prevents problems with your post.
The official registration with the residents' register is free in most municipalities or costs a small administrative fee (CHF 0–30). Swiss Post's mail forwarding is fee-based (from approx. CHF 45/month). Adresio bundles all notifications for a one-time fee of CHF 49–79 — depending on the number of services.
eUmzug is the official federal government channel and covers only the residents' register. Adresio goes much further: Swiss Post mail forwarding, health insurer, road traffic office, insurances, telecom and banks — all in one step, without account creation.
You can request mail forwarding directly on post.ch or have it handled through Adresio. The forwarding order ensures all letters sent to your old address are automatically forwarded to the new one. Adresio initiates this as part of the Comfort or Carefree package.
After moving, you must update your driving licence and vehicle registration. The road traffic office is organised by canton — you register with the office of your new canton. Adresio guides you through this step in guided mode.
Yes. Your health insurer needs your current address so that premium invoices and reimbursements are correctly delivered. A change of canton can also affect your premium, as health insurance premiums are graduated by canton. Adresio notifies your health insurer automatically.
Late registration with the residents' register may result in reminders or fines (up to CHF 300) depending on the municipality. For private service providers there are no penalties, but misrouted post and missed invoices can result.
For most services: yes. The residents' register accepts notifications via eUmzugCH. Adresio bundles all of this — you fill in one form. Only the road traffic office still requires a brief in-person step in some cantons.
Mail forwarding is a Swiss Post service that automatically forwards post sent to your old address to your new one. Especially useful in the first weeks after your move — recommended for at least 3 months. Included in the Adresio Comfort and Carefree packages.
You enter your old and new postcode and your moving date. Then you choose which organisations you want to notify — Adresio automatically calculates your price. You pay securely with TWINT or credit card. Afterwards you enter your personal details once. Adresio forwards everything and you receive a confirmation per notification directly by email.
Yes. Adresio processes and stores data exclusively in Switzerland. The AHV/AVS number is stored with separate encryption and never transmitted in plain text. OCR photos are irreversibly deleted after processing. Adresio is fully DSG and GDPR compliant.
Adresio is a one-time payment with no subscription: Simple (1–2 services) CHF 49, Comfort (3–5 services) CHF 59, Carefree (6+ services) CHF 79. All prices include VAT. You see the exact price before you pay. The 14-day carefree guarantee applies in case of failure.
Yes. In the Carefree package, household members are included. You can add partners, children and flatmates — Adresio notifies all persons in one go. Pets are also automatically notified where applicable.
